It has been recently announced that seven AKB48 members, to be lead by Sayaka Akimoto, will be included in the cast for the upcoming Ultraman Saga film as part of the Earth Defense Force. As per AKB48's usual routine, they will be called "Team U."
AKB48's Team U members are Haruka Shimada, Yuka Masuda, Sae Miyazawa, Sayaka Akimoto, Ayaka Umeda, Kana Kobayashi, and Sumire SatÅ (pictured above from left to right). It will be the first time in the franchise that all of the onscreen members of the Earth Defense Force are female.
Akimoto will play the leader Anna, while Miyazawa will play the special attack unit captain Sawa. The other characters are vice-leader Misato (Umeda), maintenance team members Nonko (Masuda) and Maomi (Kobayashi), medical chief Riisa (Sato), and communication chief Hina (Shimada).
As a celebration for the franchise's 45th Anniversary, Ultraman Saga deals with a mysterious race of invaders who have taken over the Earth. Ultraman Zero must team up with Ultraman Dyna and Ultraman Cosmos to restore peace to the planet.
